ABECO Industrie-Computer GmbH, Krefeld

Future-proof heating and cooling with heat pumps

Building owner: ABECO Industrie-Computer GmbH

Town/City: Krefeld

ABECO's new corporate headquarters still stands somewhat isolated: literally alone in a green field. The company is namely the first resident of the newly created Designstrasse in the Fichtenhain district of Krefeld. Some might think that the street is named after ABECO, as its slogan is: "Competence in Hardware Design". In specific terms, ABECO manufactures IT systems for industry and companies in the medical technology and biotechnology sectors. And the company is so successful that it moved from the town of Straelen into a brand-new building in Fichtenhain in 2023. The company has invested three million euros in production and warehousing space plus offices with a usable floor space of 1,500 square metres. ABECO is thus prepared for the future. So too is the heating technology in the building.

It is sensible to rely on heat pumps in new buildings, as these systems conform to the German Building Energy Act (GEG), and are also environmentally-friendly and efficient. ABECO opted for Kampmann's KaClima S heat pumps for its new building.

The KaClima S features a compact design and is ultra-economical to operate: the units have been classified as energy efficiency class A++ to A+++ in accordance with the EU regulation. This reduces electricity costs and also helps to conserve the environment. The choice of refrigerant also helps to protect the environment: Kampmann relies here on R32 and so reduces the CO2 equivalent by up to 75% with simultaneous cooling and heat output.

Two KaClima S have been installed as a cascade solution at ABECO in Krefeld. This offers numerous benefits in part-load operation, silent operation and modulation compared to a compact unit. In Defrost mode in winter, this is done with ease for the different units, and heating mode can continue without restrictions to the heating temperature or fluctuations. In the event of a malfunction, emergency mode can be provided at short notice by the other units, thereby continuing to ensure a supply of heat and cooling. Intelligent runtime optimisation of master and slave units reduces the wear of components and increases the lifetime of the system. And, thanks to the optimised part-load mode, the cascade adapts to the actual load profile of the building, which, in turn, has a positive impact on the energy costs of the building.

Its cooling function is yet another major benefit of the KaClima S heat pump. ABECO can therefore provide its employees with comfort on the increasingly frequent occurrence of hot summer days. And do so totally automatically: the KaClima S automatically regulates its output based on the outside temperatures measured. The unit also complies with the stringent requirements of the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA) and is thus eligible for state funding.
